The Hershey Experience

For one weekend every January, the Hershey Lodge is filled with many advocates of agriculture from county fair boards attending the Pennsylvania State Association of County Fairs State Convention!  During this convention, fair queens from all over the Keystone state compete for the title of Pennsylvania State Fair Queen.
I was given the opportunity to travel to Hershey with my mother, my Uncle Denny, my fair queen moms and some of the amazing people that make up our fair board to compete for the 2015 PA State Fair Queen title!  The competition consisted of an evening gown contest with an introduction, an essay, an interview and a speech contest.  Although I was as busy as I could be, I was blessed to have met 58 amazing, talented young women who made this weekend memorable while attending seminars, the judges’ reception and the Queen’s party!  Those three days, I made lots of memories and friends who love agriculture just as much as I do and learned that just being me can take me anywhere!

Thank you to the Huntingdon County Fair Board for allowing me to compete in this contest and supporting me!  To my fair queen moms, thank you for the endless hours of scrapbooking, making me practice my speech when I didn’t want to and most of all, making me laugh and smile!  My mom, thank you for riding to Hershey with me, making sure I was everywhere at least 20 minutes early and fixing my hair and sash!  Uncle Denny, thank you for braving the weather Saturday morning to come to the coronation banquet and being part of my journey!  And to you, Huntingdon County residents, I can’t thank you enough for the all the support you have given me!  I may not have won the state title but being the Huntingdon County Fair Queen is the best title I will ever be given!

Sweetest Place on Earth Part 2

Well our trip is halfway over and the fun hasn't stopped yet! We started the day off bright and early with the communications breakfast. Our volunteers worked endlessly throughout the year and the hard work paid off!  We received 1st for our 5 minute video (it will be uploaded soon!), 2nd for our website and 3rd for our scrapbook!  Congratulations to our wonderful volunteers!  Later in the day, I finally got to meet the 3 judges for my interview.  I also got to mingle with them, the other queens and some great Fair directors!  To end our busy day, the queens got a pizza party to relax before the big day!  Tomorrow is the last day to dazzle the judges with my speech and our last day at the Sweetest Place on Earth, don't worry I'm eating lots of chocolate!  Check back in tomorrow for the final update of the PSACF State Convention!!

Welcome To The Sweetest Place on Earth!

Day one is in the books of the 2015 PSACF State Convention!  This afternoon, my mother and I made the trip to Hershey to start the weekend of a lifetime.  Upon arrival, we attended an orientation that explains everything that will happen in the next three days.  With only a short amount of time, I quickly put on my evening gown and did my makeup to prepare for the evening gown/introduction portion of the competition.  Being number 26 in the competition, you get to listen to all the introductions in front of yours and pray that you don't forget yours!  As I approached the stage, I didn't get nervous until I stepped on my dress walking up the stairs.  I made it to the middle of the stage when I noticed my mouth was dry and I was afraid that my introduction would be a disaster! Much to my surprise my introduction went great which was such a relief!  Off to bed for this fair queen tomorrow since she has a busy day consisting of breakfast, an interview, and time spent with the 58 other contestants!  Make sure you stop back tomorrow evening to check out the happenings here in Hershey!
